Module 2: Know Your Career Options

Introduction: Youve spent some time enhancing your self-awareness, specifically with regard to your personality type, career interests, and personal values. Now its time to connect that information to the wider world of work. In order to determine if youd like to do a particular job its important to know what that job entails. Lets begin by analyzing the core responsibilities of various occupations. Section 2.1 In this section you will review core responsibilities of various careers using the career descriptors provided within your assessment results. Objective: Using assessment descriptors (see attached samples, Exhibits A1-A3), you will write a paragraph explaining the core responsibilities for each of your top three jobs. Instructions: Based on your assessment results youve identified your top 3 careers areas of interest. You will now conduct some research to explore the specific duties and responsibilities required by each of those careers. A. Use the printouts (see attached samples, Exhibits A1-A3), from your career assessment to review the following information for each of your top 3 careers. 1. The core responsibilities. 2. A breakdown of daily activities. 3. An overview of a day in the life of someone currently doing the job. B. Write a paragraph for each of your top 3 careers (3 paragraphs in total). Include all of the information you obtained from section A above and include a statement explaining what appeals to you about the career. Rubric:

Each paragraph includes a list of core responsibilities, a few daily activities, and a summary of a day in the life of an incumbent worker for each of the top 3 careers. Some reference is made to what is appealing about each career.

Unsatisfactory
Fewer than 3 paragraphs are presented. Grammatical or spelling errors are present. Only a few core responsibilities and daily activities are listed. No summary is provided of the daily activities of an incumbent worker. No reference is made regarding why the careers are appealing.
