Questions 1 and 2 are very short questions of 1 mark each question 3 to 5 are short questions carrying 3 marks each questions 6 and 7 are short questions carrying 3 marks each and question number 8 is very long question carrying 6 marks 4. There is no overall choice. 5. Use of calculators is not permitted. Q1. What is the name of the horizontal and the vertical lines drawn to determine position of any point in Cartesian plane? (1 Mark) Q2. In which quadrant does the following points lies? (a) A (1,-1) (b) B (-3, -2) (1 Mark)

Q3. A point is at a distance of 3 units from x axis and 4 units from the y axis. Represent the position of the point in the Cartesian plane and also write its Cartesian coordinates. (2 Marks)

Q4. By plotting, show that following pair of points are the two distinct points on the Cartesian plane. (a) (b) (3, 2) and (2, 3) (-1, 5) and (1,5) (2 Marks)

Q6. Plot the following ordered pairs (x, y) of numbers as points in the cartesian plane. (3 Marks) x y 3 6 -2 6 0 1.5 4 4 -1 -3 -2.5 4

Q7. Three vertices of a square are A (-1,-9), B (3,-1) and C (-5, 3). Plot the points. Then find the coordinates of the missing vertex D. (3 Marks) Q8. A car starts from the center of city and in each consecutive hour it covers a distance of 20km (along north), 16 km (along east), 24 km (along south) and 20 km (along west) respectively. Assuming the centre of city to be the origin, north-south direction is along y axis and west-east direction is along x axis; show the various position of the car on the Cartesian plane. Also, find how far is the car from x and y axis respectively at its final position. (6 Marks)
