ILD 823 Leadership in a Global Society Assignment: Cultural Plunge Paper Directions: 1. Attend two events or visit places between June 25 and August 3, 2012, that are dominated by a culture outside your own identity, and interview a cultural expert who is familiar with the event/place to gather additional information about it. This should be something different from what you have already experienced, enabling you to stretch your life experiences. This opportunity also gives you a reason to attend something about which you always wondered and wanted to learn more, but felt reluctant to explore. 2. Write a short report about both experiences in one paper. a. Include a description of the events/places and when you attended (15 points) -Provide details to paint the picture b. Include statements that best describe your feelings about the personal value or meaning gained from this experience that has altered (strengthened, eliminated, and/or added to) your previous understanding. (15 points) -Also explain how this is different from your own cultural background c. Explain how this would be of value to you or others in leadership capacities. (15 points) -Make connections between these cultural experiences and leadership qualities, information for decision-making, etc. 3. Use APA writing format, including title page, abstract, headings, and correct citations in the body. No reference page is needed unless you are quoting from materials.
