THE GENERAL FORMULA FOR THE PREDICTION OF VISIBILITY OF CRESCENT IS

A CUBIC EQUATION (BRUINS AND YALLOP EQUATION).

a = a0+a1w+a2w^2+a3w^3----------------(a)
where a = ARCV, w= S.D {1-cos1b}....................(A)
b=ARCL,c=DAZ.
CONSTANT ai are different for different formaulae, i=1,2,3,4
Eq a can be converted as follows
0=(a0-a)+a1{SD.(1-cosb)}^1+a2{S.D(1-cosb)}^2+a3{S.D(1cosb)}^3.............(c)
This is a cubic equation and can be solved taking S.D as a variable.
where S.D IS THE SEMI DIMETER.
From equation A one can easily find the values of S.D corresponding to w for
the visibility of PRACTICAL CRESCENT.
WE KNOW THAT cos b = (cos a )(cos c)......................(B)
=> Cos -1[(cos b)/(cos c)] = (cos a)............................(B1)

Substituting the values in EQUATION c from EQUATION c we get

0=(a0-a)+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos
c))}^2+a3{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^3.............(d)
In eauation d we have eliminated the variable b or ARCL
How ever if some one wants an equation which includes variables a,b,c one
may substitute the constant term
(a0-a) in equation d by (a0- Cos -1[(cos b)/(cos c)]) to get the following
equation
0=(a0-a)+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos
c))}^2+a3{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^3.............(d)
0=(a0-Cos-1[(cos b)/(cos c)])+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)
(cos c))}^2+a3{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^3.............(d)
or

Cos-1[(cos b)/(cos c)])=

a0+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^2+a3{S.D(1(cos a)(cos c))}^3.............(d1)
or
cos[a0+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos
c))}^2+a3{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^3]=[(cos b)/(cos c)]
.............(d2)
[cos[a0+a1{SD.(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^1+a2{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos
c))}^2+a3{S.D(1-(cos a)(cos c))}^3]][cos c]=(cos b)
........................(e)
where a0= 12.4023
a1= -9.4878
a2= 3.9512
a3=-0.5623
