TYPE OF VIOLENCE THROUGHOUT THE LIFE CYCLE A. It is a big help to the caregiver to be reminded of the stages in the life cycle of the woman and reflect on the types of violence she may be exposed to at each stage. 1. Infancy and Childhood a. Girls are neglected (in their nutrition, education, and socialization) sometimes because the parents prefers boys to girls, thus proper health care is also denied the girls. b. Some cultures practice genital mutilation in order for the girls not to experience sexual satisfaction, therefore, lessening the possibility for the girls in those particular cultures to be adulterous and promiscuous. 2. Adolescence a. The adolescent girl is susceptible to sexual abuse, which can result in early childbearing, HIV infection, and undernutrition. b. Unwanted pregnancy may lead the girl to seek the help of abortionist, which exposes her to the possibility of complications. 3. Reproductive Years a. The woman belongs to the group of women who are mostly married or living-in with a male partner. b. She can be a victim of sexual, verbal, economic, social, and physical abuse because she is now burdened with household and child-rearing responsibilities.
