Introduction
Orthodontics:
Is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the supervision, guidance, and correction of the growing and mature dentofacial structures. This area of dentistry encompasses all ages of the population, with an increase of adults receiving treatment due to renewed interest in their oral health and appearance.
Orthodontics is also the branch of dentistry concerned with the correction of irregular teeth.
Orthodontist:
The Orthodontist works very close with the Pediatric and General Dentist in providing opportunity to change a persons smile. As a specialist, the orthodontist continues education after dental school.
Open bay concept means: The patient care area is sectioned off to serve three functions: To obtain records and create a more private setting. To take radiographs. To provide patient care at all stages of treatment.
In larger practices, it is common to see up to 30 patients a day. Longer appointments, such as those set up to obtain records are scheduled in the morning. Shorter appointments, such as adjustments are kept for the afternoon.
One area of the practice that is more expansive in the Orthodontic setting is the dental laboratory. Most Orthodontic practices pour and trim diagnostic models and fabricate fixed and removable appliances.
