Please suggest on what basis the high voltage XLPE cables are laid in tre-foil or flat formation.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two formation?

RudraUnfollow Follow Rudra Rudra Ghosh Both have certain advantage and disadvantage, trefoil formation of cable configuration has the advantage of minimizing the sheath circulating currents induced by the magnetic flux linking the cable conductors and Metallic sheath .But it is not efficient heat dissipation because there is an appreciable mutual heating effect of the three cables. In order to improve the natural heat dissipation from around the cable circuits the three single-core cables could be installed in flat formation. Again sometimes in case trefoil formation if laying is mainly in cable tray during fault condition cable may get twisted unnecessarily due to occurrence of electro-dynamic force in the cable, where force is zero in flat formation 2 days ago Unlike Like

RaviUnfollow Follow Ravi Ravi Prakash TREFOIL CLAMPS ARE USED IN THREE PHASE ALTERNATE CURRENT POWER CABLING TO NULLIFY THE MAGNETIC FIELDS PRODUCED IN THE THREE PHASE CBLES WHEN CURRENT FLOWS.IT ALSO HELPS IN REUDCING THE EDDY CURRENT HEATING IN THE METAL ENCLOSURES OF CABLES. 21 hours ago
