II. Schematic Diagram of Methodology A. Mass Measurement Using a platform balance, weigh separately 3-one peso coins, B.

Volume Measurement 1. Liquid Using the graduated cylinder, measure the capacity of a 50 ml beaker . Fill the beaker with water up to 50-ml level. Pour the contents into the graduated cylinder. Record the mass of each coin, Put all 3 one peso coins on the pan and weigh. Record the total mass of the 3 one peso coins.

Repeat all these procedures, using this time a 250-ml beaker. 2. Regular Shaped Solid Using a metric ruler, measure the length of each of these edges of any tetra pack juice container (Ignore the irregular portion of the tetra pack at the top. Record these values (height, width and thickness.

Record the volume that you have read in the graduated cylinder.

Calculate the volume in cc, liters and quarts.

3. Irregular Shaped Solid Place an initial and final volume of HO in a graduated cylinder. Immerse the irregular solid into the graduated cylinder. Read the rise of the level of the water.

Calculate the volume of the irregular shaped solid.

Record the initial and final volumes.

C. Distance Measurement Using a length of a string, measure circumference of four different sizes of beakers. Draw the string around the beaker . Mark the overlapped ends of the string.

Measure the diameter of each beaker. (An easy way to do this is to place the edges of two books against the beaker on opposite sides. Carefully remove the beaker and measure the distance across the gap with a ruler). Record

Record this value.

Measure the distance between the mark of the string to get the circumference.

Make a graph of the circumference of the beakers (y-axis) versus their diameter (x-axis).

Pick any two points P and P on the line. (Choose points located near the ends of the line).

Draw a line through a plotted point.

Use the two points P (xy) and P (xy) in order to determine the slope of the line. Slope = change in circumference Change in diameter = y X = y-y x-x

D. Temperature Measurement Place approximately 50 ml of water in a 250-ml beaker. Heat for 10 minutes or until it boils.

Record the temperature in C, F and K.

Carefully place the thermometer in water. (Note: Do not touch the side or bottom of the beaker with the bulb of the thermometer.)
