PROCEDURESTOPREVENTVIOLATIONSOFTHEHONORCODE:
TeachersandAdministratorswillensurethatstudentsareorientedtotheHonorCodeandare awareofthedefinitionsofcheating,plagiarism,lying,andstealingbypresentingthisinformation duringthefirstweekoftheschoolyear. Teachersareresponsibleformakingsurethestudentsareawareoftheproperdocumentation procedurerequiredtoavoidplagiarism. TeachersmayrequirestudentstosignanHonorCodestatementonanyassignmenttoverifythat thestudentwasnotinviolationoftheHonorCode.Thisstatementmayeitherbehandwrittenbythe studentorincludedintheassignmentbytheteacher. Thestatementwillappearasfollows:Onmyhonor,IcertifythatIdidnotgiveorreceiveaid onthisassignment/quiz/testandthatIamnotinviolationoftheHonorCodeofSouthCentralHigh School. StudentswillreceiveacopyoftheHonorCodetoassistthemindefiningwhatconstitutesa violationoftheHonorCodeandhowtheycanavoidsuchviolations.TheHonorCodewillalsobe postedontheschoolwebsite. StudentswillavoidsituationswhichcouldleadtotheviolationoftheHonorCodeandavoidall unauthorizedassistanceontheirschoolwork.

Makingsuretheyuseparentheticaldocumentationinalloftheirpaperstogivepropercredittotheir sources. Usingquotationmarksandparentheticaldocumentationaroundmaterialcopieddirectlyfrom anothersource. Usingparentheticaldocumentationafteranyparaphrasedmaterial. TurninonlytheirownworkanddonotcutandpastefromInternetsites. Avoidtypingapaperwiththesourceopeninfrontofthecomputer.Studentsshouldreada paragraph,turnthesourceoversoitcannotbeseen,andthentypetheinformationtheyremember intheirownwords.Gobackandaddanymoredetailsthatwereleftoutbyconsultingwiththe sourceagain.Oncethattopiciscompleted,useparentheticaldocumentationtogivecredittothe source. Donotcutandpastesentences,paragraphs,orwholepagesofinformationfromtheInternetinto papers. StudentsareexpectedtoreportHonorCodeviolationstoateacheroradministratoriftheyseeone occurring.
