Candidate: Irene Navarro Content Area: Physical Science-Mixtures and Solutions Subject Matter: Science Lesson Content Description: Students will continue to learn about solutions and mixtures. *Note: This is the same lesson as Wednesday, except I will be teaching the same lesson to another class. My master teacher teaches science to her co-teachers class because they switch off every other day for science and social studies Type of Lesson: Direct Instruction , Review Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery: Direct Instruction Content Standard: PHSYICAL SCIENCE (f): Students know differences in chemical and physical properties of substances are used to separate mixtures and identify compounds. ELD Standard: INTERMEDIATE COMPREHENSION Restate and execute multiple-step oral directions. Lesson Objective: All students will complete a written science quiz on solutions and mixtures. Date: 08/22/13[THURSDAY ] Grade Level: 5th Grade

Assessment: Formative: -White Board Slates -Observations Summative: -Completed independent student quiz Lesson/Assessment Modifications: ELL: Special Needs ELL: visual support, seated with a bilingual student, contextualization in into part of lesson ADHD: seated at the front of the class, visual support, online activity Technology: YouTube/Internet Access, Document Camera

INTO Anticipatory Set/Orientation Experiment (purpose: tap into solution and mixture prior knowledge) -mix sand and water in a clear cup -mix salt and water in a clear cup -ask class to identify which is a solution and which is a mixture T-Chart of solutions and mixtures -ask class to give examples of solutions and mixtures -organize discussion on a t-chart

State technology that will be used: You Tube Re-state Content Standard and Objective in student friendly terminology: Must tie into Assessment By the end of the lesson, you will learn how to distinguish mixtures and solutions Outline adaptations for EL and special needs students PowerPoint visuals, partner support, seated at the front of the class
