Intro (vs.1-4): In this very heartfelt, pastoral letter, Paul is encouraging the Thessalonians to remember that they are on a new path, guided by a new person, headed to a new place. Every chapter ends with the inspiring, comforting and challenging certainty of the Saviors imminent return. The Captain of our salvation has left us with the mission, the motivation and the means to get the job done and someday he will return with a reward or a rebuke. Paul begins by telling them that he is careful in praying (v.2) for them, that he is ceaseless in remembering (v.3) how faithful they have been so far and that he is confident in knowing(v.4) that they have been a part of Gods plan from the very beginning. 1. YOU CAUGHT IT (CH.1) a. The Gospel Came (v.5) -In power, in person and in practice. b. The Gospel Conquered (v.6) -This resulted in addition through affliction and appreciation. c. The Gospel Changed (v.7-10) -They bore witness and they began waiting. 2. WE BROUGHT IT (CH.2) a. Our Heart (vs.1-6) -A heart of determination (vs.1-2), of devotion (vs.3-4) and of deference (vs.5-6). b. Our Hand (vs.7-13) -The hand of a Mother (vs.7-9), of a Father (vs.10-12) and of God (v.13). c. Our Hindrances (vs.14-18) -They are countrymen (v.14), they are contrary (v.15-16), and they are consorting (vs.17-18). d. Our Hope (vs.19-20)
3. SATAN FOUGHT IT (CH.3) a. The Burden of the Battle (vs.1-5) -The fear was safety (vs.1, 5), so the fellow laborer was sent (vs.2, 3) and the fact was stressed (v.4). b. The Blessing of the Brotherhood (vs.6-10) -When Paul heard that they had conquered (v.6), he was comforted (vs.7-9) and all the more committed (v.10). c. The Blueprint of the Boss (vs.11-13) -Our Commander and Chief will direct our coordination (v.11), He will develop our charity (v.12) and He will determine our completion (v.13). 4. GOD TAUGHT IT (CH.4) a. We Learn to be Clean in Our Personal Lives (vs.1-8) -We see Gods mandate for moral purity (vs.13), Gods meaning for moral purity (vs.4-6a) and Gods motives for moral purity (vs.6b-8). b. We Learn to be Courteous in Our Public Lives (vs.9-12) -A Christians love to others (vs.9, 10) and lifestyle among others (v.11) becomes a lesson for others (v.12). c. We Learn to be Comforted for Our Prospective Lives (vs.13-18) -We take comfort in the preciousness of His acquisition (vs.13, 14), the plan at His appearance (vs.15-17) and the passing on of His assurance (v.18).
