Background
Strathmore College became a University in August 2002. Thus in addition to the professional courses, that is, CPA, ACCA, IMIS, ILM, for which the Strathmore has been known for many years, we now offer two degree programmes - Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) and Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM). The Bachelor of Commerce course has been improved and modernised and thus brings together two key aspects of business training, that is, the link between business and financial studies and Information Technology. While in the past many students would have found it easier to get opportunities in the work environments with business studies training, many firms are getting more specific in their preferences. Currently, there is every inclination for employers to prefer students who have thorough knowledge of business and financial studies, but at the same time understand how information technology affects businesses. Our students are exposed to information technology and management courses, humanities, business ethics and languages, which give them a wider scope of business organizations and how they are run or should be run. The course has been developed after a lot of research based on our experience within the Kenyan market where our CPA and ACCA graduates have found jobs in industry in middle level management for many years.

This will broaden the job market for students intending to take these specialisations. Finance Option students taking up this option will be taught the latest International practices in this area including Financial Modelling with spreadsheets (an area that is not very well developed in the region). Mathematics subjects for finance will be introduced in the syllabus, making the finance option a unique product in the Kenyan market. Business Administration Option Students taking up this option are will be well prepared in the areas of Marketing, General Management, Human Resource Management and Business Planning among others. Students are encouraged to develop their own thinking in business management in order to later prepare them to become experts in their various fields.
