POPULATION SERVED: This project serves residents with any type of disability who are
located in three Iowa counties: Mahaska, Appanoose, and Monroe. Specifically, those targeted
disabled populations are ex-offenders, immigrants, limited English speakers, veterans, victims of
violent crime, single working mothers, homeless persons and individuals in specific low-income
areas.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: (Services they will provide.)


Through this project SCICIL, in partnership with the One-Stop System, will provide employment
services to people with disabilities. The One-Stop center will refer people to SCICIL, which will
conduct an assessment to determine the areas in which the participant is most in need. Based on
the assessment, SCICIL will offer information and referral services, pre and post job mentoring,
service coordination/case management, job retention support, life skills training, employability
skills training, post job placement services, and employer site visits / information and education.
Through its partnership with the One-Stop system, SCICIL will jointly develop ways to publicize
the project; and will issue press releases to local newspapers, radio stations and community
agencies. In addition, SCICIL will publish a monthly informational news letter.

GOALS: (How many people served, placed in jobs or education, retained, etc.)
The project hopes to serve at least 25 disabled individuals within the three counties mentioned
above. Of the 25 participants SCICIL would like to see at least 15 obtain employment at $6.20
or more per hour. In addition, it is hoped that at least 15 will retain employment for 12
consecutive months. SCICIL hopes that at least 5 will enter post-secondary education or training
programs. Lastly, SCICIL plans to develop a list of employers who participated in informational
and education program, and survey them to see if they have hired anyone with a disability.

GEOGRAPHIC AREA TO BE SERVED: Three counties located in South Central Iowa,


namely Mahaska, Appanoose, and Monroe.
