Classroom Expectations & Procedures Miss Payne 2013-2014

Behavior We will be managing behavior using Classroom Economy. Students will each have a certain job for the year which they will apply for. This job will give them a monthly income. They will be required to pay rent on their desk each month or have the option to save up money to buy their desk. Bonuses will be given for positive behaviors. o Parent signature in planner - $1 o Earn 100% on a test/quiz - $150 o Earn 90-100% on a big test/project - $300 o Showing exceptional respect - $150 Fines will be taken from a students account for negative behaviors. o Disruption - $50 o Disrespect - $100 o Dishonesty - $300 Both bonuses and fines are not concrete. They can be added to and changed as the teacher and class sees needs. Freeze - Ready Position means you will put both hands up in the air when you hear, Freeze. You will fold your hands in front of you when you hear, Ready Position. Hallway behavior: walk in ready position, no talking, facing forward, use the handrails when on the stairs. Beginning of the day procedures Enter classroom quietly and follow directions on slide or board. Make sure you have the supplies needed for the day. No electric pencil sharpening. Check off completed homework and put in the correct bin by date. Fill in the days agenda in planner. Begin Bellwork, stand for pledge and listen to announcements. If you finish early, read SSR book. Bellwork must be completed by 8:55 am. End of the day procedures Students will jobs that are done at the end of the day will complete their responsibilities. Students will write their homework assignments for the night on their homework assignment sheet and place it inside of their homework folder. Bussers will line up first, by the door in ready position. Pick-ups, walkers and after care students will remain seated in ready position until bussers have left. Classroom Expectations Students may have a bottle of water in class. They will have opportunities to refill it during the day. Healthy snack are encouraged. There will be time to have the snack midmorning. This is the ONLY time that students may eat in class. After snack time is over, eating in class will result in a fine. Desks are required to be neat and organized every day. Students can earn bonuses for exceptional neatness and fines for exceptional disorganization. There should be room to store whatever items needed inside. You will also have your backpack on the back of your chair, so school supplies may be placed there as well.

Students are required to pick up after themselves. If there is trash around their desk, they are responsible for cleaning it up. Homework procedures Clerks will be assigned to check off homework for certain groups. Clerks check off your completed homework by assignment by your name on the homework clipboard. Clerks will place your completed homework in the appropriate bin by subject by day. Any assignments NOT completed will get a 0 (zero) marked by me. You will NOT be allowed to stay in at lunch and recess to complete work for partial credit. If you are absent, you have one day to complete the homework per day you missed. Example: you missed two days of school; you get two days to turn it in. Homework assignments are emailed to parents daily so ask your parents to check their e-mail. They will also be written down on a sheet in your homework folder. Homework will be given 3-4 nights a week. o Every week students must complete 4 assignments from their spelling contract (in their spelling spiral). This is always due on Friday. Students may choose to turn them in early. All 4 assignments must be turned in at once. o Students are required to read, be read to, or read aloud to somebody for 20 minutes every night (including weekends). Parents are required to sign the agenda every night to confirm this. o Other homework assignments are determined by the following: projects, unfinished class assignments, extra practice or enrichment activities based on ability level. Rewards Students who have money left over after bills & fines will be able to participate in a class auction at the end of the month. Students will bid on prize items. They can also save their money for future prizes that are larger. Organization Students are required to have a spiral notebook for each subject Language Arts, Math, Science, & Social Studies. These will be where we will keep our notes for different units as well as some assignments and activities. Students also have a writing composition book for writers workshop as well as a journal composition book for journal entries. Students have a homework folder where they keep homework assignments, weekly homework schedules, and finished homework.
