Course Standards and Materials Algebra Essentials, CAHSEE Math Essentials, Consumer Math and Consumer Math Essentials will follow the California State Board of Education Math Content Standards and the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Blueprint. This school year, we will also begin to implement the new Common Core Standards. All courses will be using textbooks and supplementary materials from AGS Publishing. For CAHSEE Math Essentials, we will also be using CAHSEE Workbooks and Study Guides. Course Supplies
It is highly recommended that students come prepared with certain materials that would assist in their organization, readiness, and ultimate academic success on a daily basis. These materials are: Pencils with Sharpened Lead and Eraser Pens for Correcting Loose Leaf/Filler Paper Wide or College Ruled Highlighter Student Planner (will be provided) Class Folder and Notebook (will be provided)

Classroom Rules & Expectations Preparation: Seated at assigned desk before the tardy bell & ready to learn with materials ready Respect: Follow directions, raise hand to speak in class, keep hands & all objects to self, use positive language, and follow VHS student behavior expectations and dress code. Responsibility: Take ownership of actions/words and contribute to the positive learning environment. Classwork Policy Classwork involves maintaining a homework planner (provided), taking notes, showing work on practice problems, and participating in class discussions daily. Classwork counts for 30% of the course grade. Homework Policy Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Assignments are due the following day unless otherwise specified. If an assignment is not completed by the start of class on the due date, the student is needs to fill in the work/answers as the class corrects the assignment. If the student makes corrections, he/she may complete an alternative assignment for partial credit. Alternative Assignments are listed on the log hanging on the class wall. Alternative Assignments must be turned in at least one week before the end of the progress reporting period that it was assigned/due. For excused absences that are not extended, students will have two days immediately after the absence for each day of absence to make up their work for full credit. Homework counts for 30% of the course grade. Assessment Policy Assessments are given most Fridays. Students will be given prior notice of any other assessments. If a student is absent for an assessment, it is his/her responsibility to approach me to schedule a make-up. Make-up assessments must be taken at least one week before the end of the progress reporting period that it was given. Assessments count for 40% of the course grade.

Grading Policy & Scale continued system. They will be updated weekly on Aeries and all corrected student work (classwork, homework, assessments, etc.) will be kept in the students portfolio in the classroom. School/Home Connection and Communication Grades are updated in Aeries weekly and homework assignments are posted daily via my twitter account. I am also using Remind 101 to post important updates for my classes and I encourage students and Parents to sign up for this free and valuable resource. Parents and students are also encouraged to regularly check Aeries to monitor grades, missing assignments, etc.. If you have any questions, concerns, etc., please use email and/or telephone to contact me. As I am often with students in my classroom during breaks, lunch, etc., it is quickest for me to respond/contact parents via email. If I am teaching or in a meeting and unable to immediately get to your email or phone call, I will get back to you within 24-48 hours. Discipline Policy If a students behavior interferes with the classroom learning environment, he/she may be assigned a class detention. If a student is assigned a class detention, he/she will be given a slip that instructs when and where to report for the detention. If the student fails to serve the detention as assigned, it will be rescheduled and contact with the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student will be made. If the student fails to report for the rescheduled detention, a referral will be sent to the office for further consequences. If a students behavior is so disruptive that he/she is directed to leave the classroom, the student will be sent to the office with a referral. Tardy Policy Students that are not in their assigned seat at the bell signaling the start of class are considered tardy. Tardies are updated daily in Aeries and will be assigned the following consequences: 1st and 2nd Tardy: Teacher Warnings 3rd, 4th, and 5th Tardy: Class Detention and Parental Contact 6th Tardy and Beyond: Administrative Referral and Parental Contact Cell Phone/Electronic Devices Policy Cell Phones/Electronic devices are not to be visible and/or used in class. Students that are observed with their device out during class will need to give the device to the teacher/assistant for the remainder of the class period. The student will receive the device back at the end of the period. If the student refuses to hand over the device when requested, he/she will be sent to the office with a referral. If the student violates the policy a third time and beyond, the device will be sent to the office with a referral and they will need to pick up their device at the end of the school day. Eating/Drinking Policy No food or drinks other than water are allowed in the classroom. Students that have food or drinks out will be asked to put them away. Disciplinary action may be taken for continued violation of this policy.
