Key Elements of Interest from Mastering the Management System Models for strategy formulation: The article identifies

various models and methods to formulate strategy such as porters competitive advantage framework, Kims Blue Ocean Strategy, Barneys Resource Based Strategy and Christensens disruptive technology frameworks, and in essence describes the elements of supply chain strategy such as the industry framework or the marketplace, the firms unique value proposition or its competitive advantage, and its internal processes which are the supply chain processes but does not identify the managerial focus which links the supply chain processes to its business strategy. I believe this is one of the most important factors to ensure cohesive supply chain execution adhering to the firms value proposal. Tools for Strategy implementation: Balanced scorecard, strategy maps and strategy themes are effective albeit limited in terms of operationalizing a strategy for supply chain which can be overcome with tools such as techniques-tools matrices. Despite their advantages these tools are more for nominal strategy. Effective functional strategy mapping can help translate these nominal strategies and strategic themes into executed strategy. The BSC method and Strategy Maps are extremely useful in formulating new strategies but the authors do not mention the ease of implementation in reformulating existing strategies. Also based on my readings on BSC and Strategy maps, the duration of implementation on an average lasts over 2 years.
