What age level/subject area is the student? The student is a kindergartener.

Due to this, the student is at the beginner level of most subjects. Spelling is one thing that needs a lot of work based on the letter. Does gender make a difference? I think in this case, gender does make a difference. She is a very young girl in an unfamiliar place so making her comfortable is very important. As a teacher it is essential to get to know her and her likes, and make things relatable to her. This will make her feel more comfortable and benefit her learning a lot. What cultural knowledge (for you) would be relevant? There is a lot of cultural knowledge that would be relevant. It is important to know about the students home country along with the more specifics about the students home state. This will make them feel important and special that you took the time to find out where they came from. Does the content knowledge need to change? No the content knowledge does not need to change. It is just important to make sure that you know what the student knows and have a grasp on a way to teach new knowledge and they will learn. What are some ideas you have for differentiation? Differentiation can be done simply through a variety of different activities. Due to the fact the student (and the rest of the class) is in kindergarten it would be easy to come up with some fun and easy tasks for the students to do. When working on reading and writing there can be activities such as flash cards, and writing a word and drawing a picture to match it. What learning materials would be most effective? The learning materials that would be most effective would be things like picture books, dictionaries, worksheets, pencils and crayons. The student is in kindergarten so she does not need lots of elaborate materials. At their learning level things like picture books and simple worksheets will go a long way and help her learn a lot. Pencils and crayons are important because they can be used for writing and drawing. This way she can get out what she wants and express what she is feeling. Would you need to use different classroom management techniques? Yes. She does not speak the same language we do so different classroom management techniques would be helpful. No major changes would be needed but having the same classroom rules and procedures translated for her would be good. Also giving her a little extra time to adjust to the new classroom environment would be important.

What are your learning expectations for the student? I have high expectations for the student. She seems like a very bright student from the letter. Also because she is only in kindergarten she has a lot to learn. In her letter she was very excited to learn which is a positive and shows her willingness to learn, which will only help her learn more. Include a summary of a 25-minute lesson plan for the student you would create. For one lesson for this student I would focus on language arts. I would create a lesson in reading and writing. I would have the student read a very beginner book and then answer a few questions. To continue with the lesson I would have the student write another line or two to continue the story and draw a picture to match what they wrote. With these simple activities I can make sure the student has an understanding of the reading and writing in a different language.

I dont understand anyting from my books, but I use the beautiful pictures to try to follow along. And, Mommy, they have so many books in this place. Ovr da next few weeks and months, I hope to become bilingual. I also hope to get to know da oder kids better. I wanna make some new friends, but I also am frightened about keeping my old friends from home. In my new skool, da teacher has posters of words trazlated so those are helping me lots.
