Catalog Course Description: Web Design is a course that provides instruction in the principles of web design using HTML/XHTML and current/emerging software programs. Areas of instruction include audience analysis, hierarchy layout and design techniques, software integration, and publishing. Instructional strategies should include peer teaching, collaborative instruction, project-based learning activates and school projects. Application of Content and Multiple Hour Offerings: Intensive laboratory applications are a component of this course and may be either school based or work based or a combination of the two. Work-based learning experiences should be in a closely related industry setting. Instructors shall have a standards-based training plan for students participating in work-based learning experiences. When a course is offered for multiple hours per semester, the amount of laboratory application or work-based learning needs to be increased proportionally. Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs): Career and Technical Student Organizations are considered a powerful instructional tool when integrated into Career and Technical Education programs. They enhance the knowledge and skills students learn in a course by allowing a student to participate in a unique program of career and leadership development. Students should be encouraged to participate in Business Professional of America, DECA, or Future Business Leaders of America. Dual Credit: This course provides the opportunity for dual credit for students who meet postsecondary requirements for earning dual credit and successfully complete the dual credit requirements of this course.

Content Standards:
Domain 1 (Introduction to the Internet) Students assess internet tools used to access information for base knowledge of internet functions. Domain 2 (HTML/XHTML) Students integrate knowledge of HTML/XHTML fundamentals to understand the functions of a website. Domain 3 (Website Development) Students produce websites to demonstrate skills of website development. Domain 4 (Design Elements) Students integrate elements and principles of design for an aesthetically pleasing and functional website.

Emergency Procedures: Fire Drills - During a fire drill please exit the room and turn right down the main hallway. Exit the doors at the end of the hallway to leave the building. Locate the tree to your right hand side (it is the only tree closest to the building). You should form a straight single file line. I will take attendance and then give you further instructions. Tornado Drills - During a tornado drill please leave all belongings and leave the room. At the main hallway go across the hall into the Science classroom across the hall from the Business Department. Once in the classroom, find a spot on the floor and sit with your back against the wall. Remain quiet and wait for instructions. Lock-Down - During a lock down gather all your materials and move to the far west corner of the room (by the printers). Sit in rows and against the wall quietly. There is no talking during these situations. Please understand that in many cases your instructor is not informed of the reason of a lock-down. So dont bother asking questions or answering others concerns with false information. Secure-The-Building - Remain seated and we will continue with business as usual.

Grading Scale: Course grades are based on the percent of total course points earned. Course grades with their corresponding percentages of points earned are shown below. To do this, be ready to use your imagination and your creative side in this class! You will be creating your own websites. Below are just a few samples of many free websites out there for you to explore try out experiment with have fun with! You are not limited to just these; if you have another idea, let me know! (The only stipulation is that it must be a free site!) We will explore many of the websites below creating your own websites for each program. ** Some of the more popular social networking applications will not be covered in class, since they are very familiar to most students (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and MeetUp).
