Student Responsibilities:
1. In-Class Current Event Notes Document: For each in-class presentation, all students are responsible for recording a one-sentence summary of the main idea, a question they have for the presenter, and an image that they will use to remember the main idea. 2. Current Event Quizzes: Every last Thursday/Friday of the month there will be a Current Events quiz. Students are responsible for their learning that includes all events covered during that month. 3. Individual Write Ups: The weekly presenters are responsible for submitting their article and summary on GoogleDocs to Mr. K by Tuesday (Periods 1-4) and Wednesday (Periods 5-7) by midnight (5 points). Students must follow the online directions to complete their write up. All instructions are online at mrkcurrentevents.weebly.com. The topic may change from week to week and therefore it is critical that every student use the site each time. You will be given a score out of 10 points on the write up. It will be returned to you using GoogleDocs and corrections must be made for the presentation. If you receive a score of 8 or better on the first draft you will receive full credit if the corrections are made. If you receive a score of 8 or lower on the first draft you will not be eligible for the additional points, but you must still make the corrections for the final copy or an additional 5 points will be deducted from your total score. **All assignments not submitted by Tuesday/Wednesday by midnight or you will receive a 0** 4. In-text citations: Each write up and presentation must include an in-text citation selected from your article. It must be properly introduced (authors name and work), formatted, and explained. 5. Presentations: On the day of the presentation bring the final copy. The presentation itself will be out of 15 points and it will be graded using the rubric on the backside of this paper. Please review and follow the rubric in order to receive full credit. Be sure to include your in-text citation in your presentation. 6. Student Reflection: The reflection will be based on personal critical analysis and student-response to teacher feedback. The reflection is due on the Monday after the presentation. NOTICE: There are no excuses for late work and/or missing the day of your presentation. I require two days of advanced notice if you know you are going to miss your presentation. This can come in the form of an email (grant.kinman@shhsla.org) or an Edmodo message. If you miss the date and I have not heard from you directly or your doctor then you will receive a Not Your Best score of 0. **This must be turned into Mr. Kinman on the day of the presentation** WRITE UP: Is the content complete? All questions are thoroughly addressed with nothing missing. All content makes sense and accurately interprets the content of the article. Is the in-text citation accurate? Is the in-text citation used, explained, and formatted correctly? Grammar/punctuation? Is the writing in paragraph form? Are there more than 2 grammatical errors? PRESENTATION: Is it evident that the student is prepared? Does the student demonstrate a strong understanding of the content? Is it obvious that rehearsal has taken place? Does the student incorporate the in-text citation correctly (3 points)? Is the student aware of and using basic presentation skills? Does the student use eye contact to keep all students engaged? Is the students body language confident and not distracting? Is the presentation between 2-3 minutes? DEADLINES: Is the rough draft turned in on Edmodo before midnight the day it is due? Are the corrections made for the final copy and turned in on time?
