Classroom Management Plan (C.M.P.) Ashley M.

Furgione Teacher of Social Studies

Classroom Theme Learn It. Live It. Question It.

Classroom Management Philosophy Collaborative learning with individual responsibility is the main concept of my classroom management philosophy. It is my goal to develop a classroom that has a strong educational structure: one that allows students to build upon one another and in turn view individual growth through the year. Expectations will be clearly outlined as we work towards class wide and individual goals over the duration of the school year. By providing a strongly supportive environment, I hope to create a classroom that breeds courage to question the unknown and the unchallenged. The classroom will offer children a safe place to learn and develop their abilities while critically thinking and working towards comprehension in a judgment free realm. The classroom will be a place where all will feel open to express their ideas, practice respect and discover the extraordinary by becoming active participants in their individual, educational experience.

Classroom Set-Up & Environment The classroom will be filled with primary and secondary resources as they are acquired inclusive of historic images, newspaper clippings, maps, quotes and any items that can bring the times in history we will be studying to life. These items will help to stimulate the students minds and offer views windows into the past. One activity we will provide are blank timelines for the students to fill in as we move through different events in history. The dcor of the classroom will help to build a safe and inquisitive environment. Seating Arrangement The seating arrangement will help to contribute to our collaborative learning initiative. The seats will be arranged in groups of four and arranged in rows providing a free middle row for me, the teacher, the easily navigate around the classroom during group exercises and to check work as it is being done. The teachers desk will be moved out of the way to the side. Of the rear or front of the classroom where space allows.

Responsibilities (Rules) Rules must be in place to promote fairness and keep structure in a classroom. Being a social studies class, there will be certain rules set up in advance that are put in place prior to the students input. More rules will be created with the help of the students (items that they feel are important and advantageous to their own learning needs). This will help students to feel a sense of comfort in class, knowing their reasonable opinions and concerns are valued. Rules are subject to change as we notice different needs in the classroom. Below are a few preliminary items: RESPONSIBILITIES Come prepared to learn and have fun doing so. Treat everyone with respect and dignity. Always complete assignments on time and ask Mrs. Furgione and a classmate concerning missed work when absent. Listen while others talk and avoid disrupting them. Always say Please and Thank you. (Simple manners go a long way). No foul language, foul gestures or disrespectful comments. Cell phones and electronic devices are only out when being used for an approved activity in class. Your brain is always your best tool!

1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) 5.) 6.) 7.)

(Final rules will be up to my discretion as students may come up with unique rules not suitable for the school or classroom environments)

Consequences There are both positive and negative consequences to following the rules and procedures of the class. The positive consequences/ rewards are intended to aide in motivating the students, but are not to be the lone factor in it. Those who follow the rules will learn and discover incredible amounts of information. They will learn and grow within the class and broaden their own wealth of knowledge. POSITIVE POLICY Student can drop the lowest grade of the daily classroom work assignments (once per month). Ability to choose teams for class activities instead of groups being assigned. Positive attitude foster a better learning environment.

We use our rules to set the foundational structure of the classroom. The following procedures will build upon that foundation and add to the structure. The will assist in maintaining order and organization within the class.

Procedures and Daily Tasks

Entering the Classroom Say good morning/afternoon Walk slowly and carefully to your assigned seat Gather the materials you will need for the giver day Start the Bell Work quietly Each day there will be a prompt on the board as the students walk in. An image, a picture, quote or passage from the past will be presented to gear the students mind toward the days lesson. They will be asked to do a number of things depending on what the prompt is and it will serve to spark the days discussion. With every assignment and task, be sure to inquire and question what you are trying to accomplish. Do not just repeat and copy. I want you to understand, comprehend and discover. Pay Attention! Listen closely! Participate respectfully Be prepared to respond to questions, defend sides and debate the past To reorganize and refocus our class I will use a noise or vocal cue. At that time the students will provide the response requested and sit quietly after being prepared to listen. Stay in your assigned seats unless otherwise directed for an activity Raise your hand Wait to speak until called on by the teacher All work will be collected and put into your class bin Ensure that your name, date and class period appear on the top left of all pages Walk slowly out of the classroom and carefully Make sure that your desks are in order, your area Is cleaned ant there is no waste in your area
