DUE__________ HEALTH CAREER INVESTIGATION

An investigation is a specific research project that may also include your thoughts, opinions, and personal reflections. These projects are designed to be worked on with extra class time and at home over the span of a few weeks. Rough drafts from notes are a great idea as the final product needs to be completely edited, polished, and in the investigation booklet.

YOUR FIRST HEALTH INVESTIGATION:

For your first health investigation you will choose a career that interests you. You will need to research that career and then relate different aspects of the job to the four areas of health weve been studying in class. This will require you to apply what we have learned in class to a specific career you choose. The goal of this project is to realize that the choices and health topics we are talking about in 6th grade will carry with you, and hopefully become an important part of your life, regardless of what you do as you grow up!

STEPS TO SUCCESS:
1. Choose a career that interests you and is researchable through books, magazines, online, or personal interviews. It doesnt have to be a career in the health field. 2. Collect general notes containing facts about your career. 3. Divide or highlight your notes into four sections; each section relating to the MENTAL, PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, and EMOTIONAL health of a person choosing your career. 4. Divide your investigation into FIVE SECTIONS: A. My Career/general information B. Social Health C. Mental Health D. Emotional Health E. Physical Health 5. Work on your rough draft for each section. 6. Complete your board.

INVESTIGATION REQUIREMENTS (This is what youll be graded on)

COMPLETELY COLORED (No white space)/Writing done in PEN 1 inch border that relates to your topic At least two hand drawn graphics/graphs/pictures. Five clear, handwritten, complete sections in complete sentences. Each section should be proofread for spelling and conventions.

HOW CAN I RELATE EACH SECTION OF HEALTH TO A CAREER??? *Here are some suggestions to get your started please dont limit yourself to ONLY these ideas/questionsYOU may have many more of your own thoughts or ideas to include. Ask yourself the following question: Assuming I take on this career, what do I need to practice in each of the four areas of health to maintain a positive working environment for myself and a healthy lifestyle? PHYSICAL: Is the job physically demanding? Will I have time to exercise outside of work? What choices will I have for food each day? What are the hours of my job? Will I have enough time for sleep? MENTAL: What are the stresses I will encounter because of this job? How will I deal with this stress? Does the job require me to act or respond quickly to situations? (Ex: Police officer, Firefighter, etc.) What qualifications do I need for this job? Do I have to go to college? What kind of concentration does the job require? SOCIAL: Will I have to work in a group? Will I have to speak in front of a group? Will I have to listen to a boss or many bosses? Will I be working with my peers or people much older or younger than me? EMOTIONAL: How emotionally draining will my job be on a daily basis? Will I be seeing things that are frightening or traumatic? How will I deal with these situations? Will I be working with sick, hurt, or angry people? What will I do for fun or to relax and process my emotions?
