Multiphase Flow Regimes (contd)

PRACTICAL RESERVOIR MONITORING

Type A: Upsloping well sections. Gravity slows down the heavy phases which occupy a large fraction of the well volume. Gas flows as a high velocity stream on the top side of the pipe. Hence the following is observed: High liquid hold-ups and low liquid velocities. Low gas hold-up and high gas velocity. Moderate oil-water slippage Large gas-liquid slippage.

Type B: Downsloping well sections. Water and oil race at very fast velocities along the low side of the well. Gravity slows down the gas, which expands dramatically in volume. The following is observed: Low liquid hold-ups and high liquid velocities. Large gas hold-up and low gas velocity. Moderate oil-water slippage Large gas-liquid slippage.
