THE ARCHITECTURE of NOWHERE

As we enter a brave new world of open borders allowing architects to work in different countries, we cannot lose sight of the dangers of ignoring the larger context of each project, the cultural, political, historical and environmental context that makes each place special. Each project must have a sense of place or we will simply create an Architecture of Nowhere. With this lecture, it is our intention to show both how the issue of Contextualism has been sabotaged in various ways over the course of history and how architects around the world have responded to emphasize the uniqueness of each place. Today, the need for a responsible, sensitive and sometimes poetic Contextualism is quite essential. We cannot let globalization and the obsession with green technology result in the making of building where there is no there there.

The lecture is free of charge, but numbers are limited. To book a place. please reply to: wccareply@gmail.com with your name and email details reference RIBA LECTURE.
