Body Proportions
Body proportions are described in terms of head heights or the number of times the height of the head could fit into the total height of the body. A person 5 4, or 64 inches tall, whose head height was 81/2 would be about 7 head high. A man whose head is 10 inches high and whose total height is 6 3, or 75 inches, is also 7 heads high . In both cases the proportions, or head size in relation to body size, are the same even though the actual measurements differ. In a figure 7 heads high, usually the neck is of a head high, and chin to shoulders about of a head. Chin to bust or chest center is generally one head high, and bust to waist about 2/3 of a head.

Body Proportions
Waist to hip is about one head high , and the hips are about halfway from head crown to floor. Hip to knee is about 1 head heights, knee to ankle about 1 , and ankle to floor . The widest part of the calf is about 1/3 of the way from the knee.

Body Proportions
Break points are usually where a line changes direction on the body or garment. E.g. the outward direction the female silhouette changes at the hip comes inward to the knee, or the inward curve from the chest changes direction and curves outward at the waist.

Body Proportions
Natural body divisions at the neck, bust, waist, hip, knee, ankle, elbow, or wrist usually form units of pleasing proportions. Not all figures are 7 heads high, but this is a common Westernized standard, it is by no means universal Usually fashion figure is considered to be at least 8 heads high.
