Use the table below to answer questions 1, 2 and 3. State Median Household Income Median Price of House Utah $ 55,220.00 $ 146,100.00 Colorado $ 55,517.00 $ 166,600.00 Wyoming $ 52,433.00 $ 96,600.00 Idaho $ 46,136.00 $ 106,300.00 Montana $ 43,000.00 $ 99,500.00 Question 1: What do we mean by terms like median household income and median house price? It means they have taken all household income values and all house price values and given you the middle values. It is not the same as calculating averages. Medians are middle values. By putting your numbers in ascending order, if you are calculating items with an odd amount of terms like, 12345then 3 is the median. If you have an even number of terms, you take the two middle terms, add them together and then divide by two. Question 2: Which state has the highest median household income, and which state has the lowest? Highest: Utah Lowest: Montana Finding the median, is finding the average. In this case, the given information is that Utahs median house price is 146,000. Montanas shows 99,500. Thus, in looking at the information provided, we can clearly see that Utahs is the highest, and Montanas is the lowest. Question 3: What is Montanas household income as a percentage of Utahs. Explain how you arrived at your answer. 43000/55220=77.87%. To find your answer, you take Montanas median household number given the information provided, and divide it by Utahs median household number. This will give you .7787033683. To get it into percentage form, you will then multiply it by 100, and round to two decimal places. You will then have Montanas household income as a percentage to Utahs. 77.87%

Question 4: Which state has the highest median family income as a percentage of the median house price in that state? Explain how you arrived at your answer. Utah: 55220/146100=37.79% Colorado: 55517/166600= 33.32% Wyoming: 52433/96600= 54.278% Idaho: 46136/106300= 43.4% Montana: 43000/99500=43.216% Answer is: Wyoming In order to find the answer as Wyoming, you have to take each states median income, and divide it by the median house price in that state. You will then multiply your answers by 100, and round to two decimal places in order to get your percentage. In comparing each percentage, you can see that Wyoming has the highest median income as a percentage to their median house price. (Over) Use the table below to answer questions 5 and 6. Candidate Number of Donors Money Raised Mr. Salinger 895 $180,000 Mrs. Shelley 1,562 $200,000 Mr. Vonnegut 367 $190,000 Ms. Atwood 505 $140,000 Question 5: Overall, which candidate raised the most money per donor? Explain how you arrived at your answer. Salinger 895/180000= 0.49% Shelley: 1562/200000=.78% Vonnegut: 367/190000= .19% Atwood: 505/140000= .36% Answer: Shelley Explanation: You will need to take the total amount of donors, and divide it by the total amount of money raised per candidate. You then multiply that number by 100 to get your percent, and round to two decimal places. One you have gone through this process for each candidate, you can see that Shelley is the answer. Question 6: Calculate Ms. Atwoods number of donors as a percentage of Mrs. Shellys. Explain how you arrived at your answer. 505/1562=32.33%. By dividing Ms. Atwoods donors of 505 by Mrs. Shelleys of 1562, you get: .3233034571. You then multiply this number by 100 and round two decimal places giving you 32.33%

Question 7: Between the four candidates, what is the mean amount of money raised? Explain how you arrived at your answer. The mean is the usual average. 180000+200000+190000+140000=710000/4=177500 By adding up all of the monies raised by each candidate, and then dividing it by 4, because that is how many candidates there are, you will find the mean amount of money raised. That amount is $177,500.00 Question 8: Between the four candidates, what is the mean number of donors? Explain how you arrived at your answer.895+1562+367+505=3329/4=832.25 You take each number of donors and add them up. You will then divide that number by four, because there are four numbers. Once you have done this, your answer will be the mean number of donors. Question 9: Calculate Mr. Salingers money raised as a percentage of that raised by Mr. Vonnegut. Explain how you arrived at your answer. 180000/190000=94.73%. Take Mr. Salingers money raised and divide it by Mr. Vonneguts. Multiply that number by 100 to get your percent, and round to two decimal places. Your answer will be 94.73% Question 10: Comparing Mr. Salinger and Ms. Atwood, which candidate raised the most money per donor? Explain how you arrived at your answer:.Salinger: 180000/895 =201.12 Atwood: 140000/505=277.23 Answer is Atwood In order to get your answer, you take the money Salinger raised and divide it by the number of donors. You will get $201.12 money raised per donor. Following, take Atwoods amount of money raised and divide it by the number of donors. You get $277.23 raised per donor. You can now see that Mr. Atwood had the most amount of money raised per donor.
