Goals and Objectives of a Head Nurse

MEDICO - Administrative DUTIES Goal: To provide an efficient leadership and harmonic relationship with the staff nurses. Objectives: Under the general supervision of the Chief, UN Joint Medical Service (UNJMS): 1. Supervision and Co-ordination of work of staff. 2. Collaborate with Chief Nurse in developing objectives and establishing policies to ensure quality in delivery of medical care. 3. Develop, implement and evaluate nursing objectives related to health care delivery. 5. Participate in implementation and evaluation of health promotion and occupational programs. 6. Identify, evaluate and purchase of medical supplies and equipment. Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment. 7. Ensure proper collection of nursing statistics to assist Chief Nurse in preparation of biennium budget. 8. Ensure smooth running of the performance appraisal system for all nurses.

CLINICAL DUTIES Goal: Provision of quality and holistic care to all patients. Objectives: 1. Assess needs of clients visiting walk-in clinic, provide care/advice or facilitate referral to Chief Nurse or an outside physician as indicated. This will involve diagnosis, prescribing and dispensing. 2. Ensure preparedness of staff travelling on mission or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccines, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel related ailments, and instruction on content of Travel Kit 3. Ensure proper co-ordination between nurses, Medical Officer, UN Security and outside paramedics in cases of medical emergencies. 4. Patient assignment to staffs. 5. Laboratory work for Entry, Periodic, Exit and Diagnostics. 6. Counselling staff. 7. Provide health education in adequacy of staffs and participate in addressing the work environment and occupational health issues.
