Humming Top

The humming top is a fun toy. Simply by pulling and releasing a string, it spins around rapidly, causing the air around it to vibrate and creating a humming sound. You could make two of these tops, one with and one without holes in it, and compare the sound the two make.
*Cut out the card above and save it. You can collect the cards from each of the Papercraft projects to make your own mini-book!

kite string Cut a piece of kite string to about 3 feet (1 meter) long. Thread the string through parts A and B, as shown, and then glue A and B together. Tie the ends of the string together to form a loop.

To spin the top:

1.Hold the two ends of the loop of string, as shown.

2.Swing the top around in circles to twist the loop of string. Then pull firmly on both ends of the loop to cause the top to spin, and relax the pull to let it twist up again. Alternately pull and release to keep the top spinning.
