LDW Back to School Night

Mrs. Travis
Music Teacher for Grades Pre-K to 8

Who Is Mrs. Travis?

I am a graduate of Penn State and West Chester University and hold a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Education. I am certied to teach Music grades K-12 in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
This is my 18th year teaching music, the last 10 of those years teaching the students of Alexandria Township.

I believe that children should learn music by playing music, whether it s through singing, dancing, or playing instruments. All students in Pre-K through 3rd Grade will have hands-on experiences with music and various classroom instruments.

Some examples of the instruments that we use in music are the Boomwhackers (pictured above), drums, xylophones, recorders, and other rhythm instruments.
In addition to playing instruments, all students are taught how to develop their singing voice and match pitch.

All 3rd Grade students will receive and learn how to play the recorder. We follow a fun, educational program called Recorder Karate where the students receive different colored belts for each level that they pass. It s always alot of fun and something that the 3rd Grade students look forward to!
Playing the recorder in 3rd Grade helps to prepare students for Beginner Band at the middle school.

Performance Opportunities

All students at LDW will have performance opportunities throughout the school year, through sing-alongs and concerts. Please check the LDW calendar for dates and times!
