Lesson Plan - Wednesday TOPIC: Geometric Reasoning GRADE: 7 DATE: 22/5/13 TIME: 70 mins

CURRICULUM OUTCOME:
Identify corresponding, alternate & co-interior angles when two parallel straight lines are crossed by a transversal Investigate conditions for two lines to be parallel & solve simple numerical problems using reasoning

WALT: How to use corresponding and alternate angle relationships to find unknown angles. WILT: Can you: identify corresponding and alternate angles? recall the corresponding and alternate angle relationships? calculate the value of unknown angles using the corresponding and alternate angle relationships?

INTRODUCTION: Check for homework. Reinforce behavior management and rewards if necessary. o o o o o Clear & explicit expectations Positive reinforcement Rewards (pens/games) 3 strikes before making up for wasted time after class Work it out as last resort

CONNECT TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE:

Have 4 questions on the board for students to get straight on with (preferably) in books. While students are working check plan of the classroom on the back wall - ask for answers to questions to be written on the board and then check for any seat changes! Mark roll.

MAIN CONTENT: Teacher Activity Corresponding angles are on the same side of the transversal and the same side of the parallel lines. Students write definition Explore the interactive online learning resource Corresponding Angles. Guide students to identify F shape.

Lesson Plan - Wednesday MAIN CONTENT cont: Student activity Draw and label diagram of corresponding angles (based on poster) what does congruent mean?

Teacher Activity Model an example

Student activity Students complete corresponding angles sheet. Teacher activity Alternate angles are on opposite sides of the transversal between the parallel lines. Students write definition Looking at a single transversal across a pair of parallel lines use the definition you have written down how many pairs of alternate angles can you find. Explore the learning resource interactive online Alternate angles. Guide students to identify Z shape. Student activity Draw and label diagram of alternate angles (based on poster)

Lesson Plan - Wednesday Model in first example, students identify in following examples.

Complete alternate angles sheet. . (needs to be on one note/hard copies?)

CONSOLIDATE: Students can try activities on: http://www.mangahigh.com/myschool/pimpamastatesecondarycollege (angle game) (I have access codes) Or: Text Book activity (maze and puzzle) - DOC 1752 (hard copies needed)

FINISH: Reflect on angles and shapes created by transversals and parallel lines. F shape corresponding angles Z shape alternate angles EARLY FINISHERS: http://www.mangahigh.com/myschool/pimpamastatesecondarycollege
