How to Make a Main Motion:

Team Member (after rising, addressing the chair and being recognized): I move that. (state motion) (team member resumes his/her seat). Another Team Member (seated and without being recognized or raising a hand): I second that motion. Chair (standing): It is moved and seconded that. (state motion). Is there any debate? (When debate is completed) The question is on the adoption of the moti on that. (state motion). All those in favor of the motion, say aye. Those opposed, say no. The ayes have it, and the motion is adopted. We will. (state motion) (the gavel is rapped once). Is there further new business? Or The noes have it, and the motion is lost. We will not. (state motion)(the gavel is rapped once). Is there further new business?

How to Amend a Main Motion:

Team Member (after rising, addressing the chair and being recognized): I move to amend by adding the words. (member resumes his/her seat). Another Team Member (seated, and without being recognized or raising a hand): I second the motion. Chair (standing): It is moved and seconded to amend by adding the words. If the amendment is adopted, the motion will read. (state main motion with the added words). Is there any debate? (When debate is completed) The question is on amending the motion. (state motion), so that, if the amendment is adopted the motion will read. (state motion with the proposed amendment). All those in favor of adding the words, say aye. Those opposed, say no. The ayes have it, and the amendment is adopted (the gavel is rapped once). The question is now on the motion as amended which is. (state motion with the adopted amendment). Is there further debate? Or The noes have it, and the amendment is lost (the gavel is rapped once). The question is now on the motion to. (state motion that was pending when the motion to amend was made). Is there further debate?
