Torah 101-Noach I.

ANSWERS TO LAST WEEKS STUDY QUESTIONS (from Bereshit)

Because of the intervention of the Fall Feasts, we have not had Torah 101 for several weeks. However, the answers to the questions posed in Bereshit from the longer Scroll to Scroll program are relevant and are reproduced here. 1) How does one word in Genesis 1:1 that cannot normally be translated become part of what we are told about Yshua in the book of Revelation? The words of Genesis 1:1 read as BERESHIT BARA ELOHIM ET HASHAMAYIM VEET HAARETZ (In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth). The word ET is a direct object pointer. It has no inherent meaning except to point to where in a sentence something receives an action, in this case the heavens and the earth receive the action of being created. This phrase shows up in the Aramaic NT as I am the Alap and the Taw, the Beginning and the Completion since Alap and Taw spell out the word ET. 2) There is something very odd going on with the way the 6 creation days are referred to, what is it? Genesis 1:5 has a very awkward reading even in English, a day one, as opposed to the first day or a first day. Contrast this with the Exodus 40:2 reading with the definite article (the) and the word first rather than one. This is not a case of bad grammarits a counting hint! Genesis 1:5s use of ECHAD (not RISHOWN, first) is odd because its a cardinal number; all the other days in Genesis 1 are ordinal numbers. A cardinal number is meant to express a value like I have ONE (echad) dollar in my pocket. An ordinal number simply shows order (1st, 2nd, etc.) without a value. Exodus 40:2 shows the correct grammar, where the month and the day are called first rather than one. The other oddity is that days 2 through 6 are not in exactly correct form either. While they are ordinal numbers, there is no definite articlethe or ha in Hebrewso it reads a second day not the second day, etc. 3) What does the phrase greater light to rule the day and lesser night to rule the night prove about the original Biblical calendar? The sun is the greater light and the moon is the lesser one. This means that the DAYS (yom in Hebrew) are determined by the sun, reckoned sunset to 1|Page

sunset. The sun is therefore superior to the moon, and this is evident by GADOL (greater). Some have said that this refers to the magnitude of light or amount of it, but YHWH knows that the moon has no real light at all, but only what the sun reflects to it! Jethro uses the same word to say Now I know that YHWH is GADOL (greater) than all the other gods and the High Priest is called Kohen Gadol to show he is in charge over all other priests just as the sun is in charge of the moon! 4) How does the image of Noah in the ark hint at our future destinymore than one answer is possible. The word for ark is TEBAH which literally means chest and within the chest is the HEART. The word for NOAH means comfort/peace so Noah in the ark points to the heart of peace, Yshua our Savior, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). 5) Inherent in the curse YHWH gives Adam there is a clue about our future glory. What is that clue? (There may be more than one correct answer here too but I have only one in mind.)

Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. 18 "Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; and you will eat the plants of the field; 19 By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." (Genesis 3:17-19 NAU) The text here talks about the ground being cursed and not easily yielding its fruit. That comes fairly close to the classic definition of a desert, wilderness or wasteland. Then it talks about thorns and thistles being all over that barren ground. The word for THORNS is SINAI and the word for WASTELAND is HOREB, so here we have the two names of where the Ten Words are given encoded or alluded to in Adams curse, so that out of that curse comes the possibility of eternal life!

Please give one example about how one image in these chapters (6 and 7) is applied very specifically to the fulfillment of prophecies in our future.
