Time: 1030-1050 Materials:

1. Whiteboard 2. iPad

Procedures:
Welcome and plan for the lesson (students have already warmed up upon entering the class). Introduce GarageBand Show the kids the toys and use terms (stems, splicing, arranging, looping, waveform, clipping) Spend more time showing them how to create a project and record their instrument Ask the students to think of ways musicians can use recordings of themselves to get better. Play them a sample of my Greensleeves recording What would you tell this person to do differently if you were giving them a trumpet lesson? Using GarageBand to record sound (no sound, click track, and with other music) How can each of these three recording options help make us a better musician? How can the ability to record multiple stems help us practice? Adding pre-recorded stems and creating loops Arranging gives us new ways to interact with our sound, track our progress, and participate in music making. Application: Students will continue working on songs from the book. One by one students will come in to a practice room and have a chance to record/arrange a book song. (10 minutes per student)

Essential Question:
How can I use GarageBand as a tool to improve my musicianship.

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to record a simple melody from the book in Garage Band. 2. Students will manipulate their recorded sound and arrange their sound sample with pre-recorded stems.

National Standards:

MCR1A HS-ES (Create) MCR3A HS-ES MP1A HS-ES (Perform) MP4A HS-ES

Personal Goals:
