Year 5/6

2013-2014

Learning Spellings
Your child will get between 5 and 10 spellings to learn each week. The words are the words that the government says that your child should be able to spell. They will have been working on these spellings in class as well but to make sure they really know the words (and not just for the assessment) it is important that they rehearse the words at home as well. We will also include 2 or more words in the spelling assessment from previous weeks so it is important that you also continue to work on older words, especially the ones that your child found harder to remember. As your childs weekly Literacy homework, they need to choose one of these activities to practice their spellings with. Your child could do the work into their spelling homework book, they could include a photo of what they have been doing or they could write a sentence to tell us what they did. Make sure your child writes the date and the name of the task they have worked on. On some weeks, we will tell your child which activity we would like them to complete. Your child needs your support with this. The more often you talk to your child about their spellings and join in with the activities, the better they will get with their spellings.

Thank you for supporting us and your child with improving our spelling.
