Teachers, like leaves, everywhere abound Effective teachers, like fruits, are rarely found.

An effective teacher is one who:


Has honed his skills in the art of teaching Demonstrates proficiency in the use of: Language Adopts varied teaching strategies Recognizes change Applies innovations Revises techniques for optimum results Allows himself to be guided by acknowledged principles and theories in education

Compassionate and understanding


Gives allowance for personal limitations Looks at every learner as a unique individual with peculiar needs and interests

Allows himself to grow professionally Has mastery of the subject matter

Must be an authority on the subject he is teaching

Personal Qualities of an Effective Teacher


These personal characteristics are related to the five aspects of personality:

Intellectual Social Physical Emotional Moral

Among those rated highly are the following:


Pleasing personal appearance, manner,

courtesy, pleasant voice: Intelligence, emotional stability, self-control; Sympathy, kindness, helpfulness, patience; Integrity, trustworthiness, honesty, loyalty; Flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness; Sociability, friendliness, cooperativeness; Fairness, impartiality, tolerance; and Sense of humor, cheerfulness, enthusiasm.

From day to day, the teacher plays many roles in the classroom. These roles include the following:
Manager

Responsible for the effective management of the class from the start to finish.

Counselor

Every teacher is a guidance counselor.

Motivator

Motivation sets the mood for learning.

Leader

Set the example to emphasize his role of being a leader.

Model

Serves as a model to the students As a model, the teacher: Must look his best all the time Master his lessons Show his interest in the students welfare Show good behavior Inculcate good work and attitude

Fair in dealing with students Exhibit good judgment

Public Relations Specialist

Credibility of the school is attributed most of the time

Parent-surrogate

In school, teachers take over the role of the parents

Facilitator

The students must be given the chance to discuss things under the close supervision and monitoring of the teacher.

Instructor

The main function of the teacher is instruction
