System Description Operating Environment

User Interface Description

Physical Device
Product - The product shall have a simple on/off switch.

Android Application

F IGURE

2. Application - The mobile application is where most of the user interaction takes place. Users can tell the application when to begin recording data and when to stop recording data. The application will monitor the shots fired at one or more targets, distinguish between the targets, and combine the data to show all shots on that target. Users will be able to view each target individually and identify each shot fired. They are able to cycle between the targets fired at (if there are multiple) by pressing the "Prev" and "Next" buttons on the screen. The option of saving the image to view at a later time is available. There will also be a settings menu in which users can specify the type of firearm and ammunition they are using, as well as some other helpful data such as where the device is mounted.

iOS Application

Functional Requirements
Functional requirements are operations and activities that a system should perform in order to meet the specific demand that is placed on the product. The functional requirements for this device have been listed below: Wireless connection between the device and mobile phone.

o As of now this wireless connection is going to be done with Bluetooth, a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances using short wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band form 2400 2480 MHz. Water resistant

o The device itself must be able to operate in environments where water is present and still function properly. Lightweight

o With this device mounted on a firearm, it must be as light as possible so it will not add significant weight and change the use of the firearm. Ability to be sighted in

o As with many things involved in shooting it is important for the user to be able to sight in the mounted device so it properly aligns with target allowing for optimal results. Mounting on firearms

o This device should be able to mount to a standard Picatinny rail which will allow for use with many firearms. o Mobile App The app must be compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

o The app will be responsible for taking the images that it receives from the device and through the use of image processing techniques it will display the results to the user in an appropriate manner.

Non-functional Requirements
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Device fabrication cost must be no more than $60(?). Device must be able to withstand forces associated with the normal operation of firearms. Device must be able to mount on a picatinny rail compliant with MIL-STD-1913. Device must be water resistant. Device must communicate to mobile platforms via Bluetooth Device must be able to be calibrated as needed when attached to a supported firearm. Operational range of the device is 1-50 yards. (?). Device must be powered by two (2) AA batteries. (?)

9. Device must be able to correctly operate when attached to the firearm on the top of the barrel, on either side of the barrel, and underneath the barrel. 10. Device must be small. (Max dimensions?)

Market & Literature Survey

Camera Options:
CMOS Camera -1300x1040 (1.3MP): $9.95 http://www.karlssonrobotics.com/cart/cmos-camera-1300x1040/? gclid=CKqj4LKex7kCFbAWMgodAjcAlg Pros: Inexpensive, small, lightweight, should be fairly easy to mount on a board. Cons: no zoom, unsure how to adjust the picture to be usable, low resolution could be hard to use for identifying bullet holes. Main points of datasheet:

2.8V Supply Up to 15fps 13001040 pixel resolution Built-in color filter 1/3.3 inch optical format Auto luminance control (ALC) Auto white balance (AWB)

Lytro Light Field Camera $399.99 Pros: Images focus is adjustable after being taken, box has basically everything we should need built in. Cons: Pricey, copyright issues may arise Main Points:

Adjustable image post-shooting Everything we need built in

Samsung Galaxy S4 Back Camera: $25.20 http://dx.com/p/repair-part-replacement-back-camera-module-for-samsung-galaxy-s4-i9500-230034? gclid=CMjdlMGgx7kCFSJqMgod6k8Asw Pros: Higher resolution than cheaper option, 13MP, could be easier to use/software support found online Cons: Still moderately expensive, possible copyright infringement. Main Points:

13MP In price range Possibly easier to use with software

Narrow Angle Cameras: $199.00 10,000,000,000 Pros: Easy to use for what we need Cons: Large, super expensive, hard to find

Board Options:
BeagleBone Black: Pros: Can install operating system for easier development, fast processor, onboard memory, USB slots for expansion Cons: Credit card sized (bigger than we hoped for)

PCDuino: Pros: Fast processor, can run OS for easier development, has 2GB onboard memory with expansion slot, Available WiFi USB extension, USB slots for expansion, looks like lots of documentation. Cons: Still bigger than what were looking for

Gumstix Pros: Customizable for what youre looking for, can be fast Cons: Expensive

Deliverables
1. A Design Document for the product detailing the design choices made, parts to be used, and interaction between components in the system. 2. A prototype of the product, to be mounted on a firearm via picatinny rail. The prototype should be fully functional or else prove that the concept is infeasible. 3. An Android application that communicates with the product. The product prototype shall send information to the application, where users are able to review the data at a later time.
