Timmoy Ellis Ms.

McKoy English II- 4th September 10,2013 Stop and Frisk In the state of New York people of a particular race are been stopped and frisked randomly by the cops. People that are been stop thinks this is against their Constitutional Rights. This violates The Fourth Teen Amendments which guarantees equal protection under the law for all citizens. They are scared to go out on the street they think they might arrest just because they are walking on the streets. It is right for the authorities stop someone because you do not like how that person look. The majority of people been stop and frisk are Latinos and African Americans. Do you think should officer stop a person on the streets just because of their race and appearance. In the Article by The statistical Debate Behind The Stop And Frisk Verdict by John Cassidy he states that the Police Department were ruled by a judge as indirect racial profiling.(Cassidy1) This violates us as citizen Constitutional rights. This article also state that throughout out 2002 to 2012 the police department has carried out over 4.4 million stop and frisk. (Cassidy1) This is an outrageous amount of people randomly being stopped and frisk during this time period. It also state that the race being stopped the most are Blacks and Latinos, they are more likely to be stopped than whites even in a neighborhood with a low crime rate.(Cassidy1) People might think that it is not racial profiling because the officer just do it randomly. Everyone was entitled to their own opinion whether it is right our wrong. I

think this is wrong because of the racial profiling. It is always wrong to judge someone because of their race and appearance. People should be able to walk the streets without getting scared of being arrested, their children should be able to do the same. I know the police officer are just trying to do their job, but it is not a job when they are abusing their power. That is what people that opposes this argument might say. They might also say that this is not an act of racial profiling its just random. When you look at the facts that more fact more African Americans and Hispanics are the ones mostly likely to be stopped. People should really stop and look at the facts before they jump to conclusion.
