MODELING OSMOSIS (LAB) PROBLEM: Which way will water flow when a raw egg is placed in 250ml of vinegar?

HYPOTHESIS: If a raw egg is placed in vinegar (water) and left for four days, then the water will flow into the egg because the vinegar water is an area of high concentration wit a percent of 95, and the vinegar is 74 percent water, which is a low concentrated area. Then the water will go in causing the shell to dissolve, and the egg will expand. THEORY: Osmosis is the diffusion of water from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration across a selectively permeable membrane. PROCEDURE: 1. Measure circumference of a raw egg using string and a ruler in cm. 2. Place egg in beaker and fill with 250 mL of vinegar. 3. Record observations. 4. Measure circumference for 4 days and record observations. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the raw egg we placed in the vinegar to model osmosis, the water was flowing in the egg, my hypothesis was correct. ANALYSIS 1. What caused the eggshell to dissolve is the vinegar. The eggshell acts as the selectively permeable membrane, which modeled osmosis. 2. After a total of 4 days, the eggs from period 3 and 7, period 3s egg expanded 4.5 cm. While the period 7 egg only expanded 1.1 cm. Some of the discrepancies could have been that the period 3 egg was larger, or that the vinegar was more diluted with water. GROUP # TOTAL EXPANSION
