Lesson Plan: Numbers of the Day Media Specialist: Gina Thomason Teacher: Marlaina Harper Grade 5 Topic: Math

- Whole Numbers; Technology Information tools Time: Two 50-minute class periods Summary: This is a 2-day technology lesson. Students have already completed the Math component of the lesson in their intervention math class. This lesson will teach students how to put the math component into a Prezi.

Standards: Math: MCC5.OA.1 Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols. MCC5.OA.2 Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. MMCC5.NBT.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. MCC5.NBT.6 Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

Standards for the 21st Century Learner: 4.1.6 Organize personal knowledge in a way that can be called upon easily. 4.1.7 Use social networks and information tools to gather and share information. 4.1.8 Use creative and artistic formats to express personal learning

Objective: The student will create a Prezi to show understanding of Math standards and standards for the 21st Century Learner. Student mastery will be assessed through a teacher/media specialist created rubric. Materials: Numbers of the day template for each student

Grading Rubric for each student Computer for each student Tutorial for how to create a Prezi

Differentiation: For this lesson, differentiation will be accomplished through the difficulty level of the numbers given to each student. Most students are working a close to the same difficulty level due to students already being leveled by academic ability. The 9 students in this class are working below grade level and are on at least a tier 2intervention plan. They do not receive Special education services.

Day 1 Activities: The media specialist will introduce the lesson by showing students examples of Prezis that have already been created. Prezis created for different purposes will be shown and discussed. The media specialist will state the purpose of the Prezi that the students will be creating over the next few days. The rubric will be given to students for students to view and discuss. A Prezi quick guide will be given to the students. The media specialist will show students a Prezi tutorial giving students the opportunity to take notes on their quick guide, ask questions and discuss any concerns. *If time allows the Media Specialist will allow students to log on to Prezi and create their title page for the Prezi. Day 2 Activities: The Media Specialist will take students to the computer lab. She will walk students through how to login in to Prezi (Media Specialist will go around and type in the password, this will not be given to students). Students will work through creating a Prezi using the information on their numbers of the day charts, which were completed in Math intervention. To start with the media specialist and teacher will walk the students through the process page by page. Once all the information is entered, students will be allowed to go back and change front, styles, etc. as time allows. Summary of Assessment and Follow-up activities: Students Prezis will be assessed by a grading rubric.

As a follow up, students will present their Prezis to Dr. Thomasons intervention students (Students that need extra help with math concepts) and Mrs. Lous Students (These are students that receive services for Learning Disabilities in Math).
