FACULTY AND GRADUATE STUDENTS FROM TDPS HONORED WITH 2013 DANCE AWARDS

Out of 11 awards categories, members of TDPS sweep five DC Dance Awards.

The College of Arts and Humanities would like to congratulate the following faculty and graduate students from The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) on their 2013 DC Dance Awards presented by Dance Metro DC: Excellence in Costume Design awarded to Aryna Petrashenko (M.F.A. in Costume Design candidate) with Sharon Mansur (Assistant Professor of Dance) for residue by Sharon Mansur, performed at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Excellence in Lighting Design awarded to Andrew Dorman (M.F.A. Lighting Design 11) for sightlines by Daniel Burkholder and Sharon Mansur, performed at Dance Place. Excellence in Sound Design/ Composition awarded to Curt Seiss (sound design collaborator) for residue by Sharon Mansur, performed at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Excellence in Stage Design/ Multimedia awarded to Jared Mezzocchi (Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance/Theatre Design and Production) for Once Wild: Isadora in Russia by Word Dance Theater, performed at the Gonda Theater Outstanding Overall ProductionLarge Venue by PEARSONWIDRIG DANCE THEATER (Directed by Sara Pearson and Patrik Widrig, Associate Professors of Dance) for Take Me With You, performed at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

Dance Metro DC received more than 270 nominations, which were reviewed by four independent peer-reviewed panels made up of 20 volunteer members from the regional dance community. From these nominations, 32 finalists were selected and only 11 were awarded. Dance Metro DC is an organization with the mission to serve and engage artists, educators, professionals and organizations in the field of dance. As a Service Organization member of Dance/USA and a member of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, the organization strives to support excellence in dance in the D.C. metropolitan area.
