E xperim ental W ork 1 "1 Apparatus and procedure The packed colum n consisted of a 1 2. 0 -cm I. D. j acketed acryl-resin tub e packed to the heights of 0 . 2m or 0 . 3 m w ith 1 5 m m ceram ic R aschig ring and 1 /2- and 1 -in. ceram ic spheres. The liq uid distrib utor w as m ade of acryl-resin and had sixty one 3 . 5 m m I. D. glass nipples arranged in a ll. 6 m m triangular pitch. The aq ueous solutions of 0 . 0 5 , 0 . 1 , 0 . 25 , 0 . 5 and 1 . 0 iV - N aO Hw ere irrigated ov er the packings after heating in the therm ostat tank w hich w as controlled at 3 0 l C. Air from a b low er and carb on dioxide from a cylinder w ere fed to the b ottom of the packed colum n after the gas m ixture w as w ell m ixed and saturated w ith w ater v apor. The CO 2content in the air w as controlled b y a reducing v alv e at the CO 2 cylinder.
