WORKSHOP TASK 1 Material Required Mild Steel Plate 1/4 " x 5 " x 3 3 /4 " Round Stock 1/2 " x 5 " Marking out must be within 1/16" of specification. Filing must be flat and square. Threading must be clean and square All steps must be carried out in sequence using the correct tools in a safe manner. Tools Required: Bench Vice Files Bastard Second Cut Smooth

STEPS 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Clean workpiece x 5 x 3 File one 5" edge flat. File adjacent edge flat + square. Mark out steel plate to specifications shown on drawing Prick punch finished outline and centre punch drilling locations. Use hacksaw to cut around the outside of the punched outline. Leave at least 1/16 clearance for finishing. File down to punch lines. Drill pilot holes and final holes. Tap holes.

10 Clean up round stock 11 Chamfer both ends, take care not to damage the round sides in vice. 12 Cut threads to 1 " depth on both sides.
