Contests and Challenges

IWitness IWitness (http://iwitness.usc.edu) is an educational website developed by USC Shoah Foundation The Institute for Visual History and Education. Recognized by the American Association of School Librarians as a Best Website for Teaching and Learning in 2012, IWitness brings the human stories of the Institutes Visual History Archive to secondary school teachers and their students via engaging multimedia-learning activities. By integrating testimony-based education with the development of digital literacy and other 21stcentury competencies, IWitness activities encourage critical thinking and self-reflection, and help students get a sense of their own place in the world and of the profound impact their words and actions can have on the lives of others. Please consider participating in the IWitness Video Challenge, a video essay contest for secondary school students, commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Steven Spielbergs Oscar-winning film, Schindlers List. Guided by the theme, Ordinary People Extraordinary Actions, the Challenge asks students to develop a video essay that links their own voices to those in IWitness and demonstrates how any individual can take action to make the world a better place. The Challenge and other IWitness activities address a number of standards, including the ISTE NETS. The student with the winning video essay will be flown to LA with their teacher and a parent/guardian to have their video screened at the 20th anniversary celebration of the USC Shoah Foundation and Schindler's List.
