INTRODUCTION

. An electric generator motor utilizes the magnetic effect of current . A motor works on the principle that when a rectangular coil is placed through it, a torque acts on the coil which rotates it continuously . When the coil rotates, the shaft attached to it also rotates. In this way the electrical energy supplied to the motor is converted into the mechanical energy of rotation

Electricity from Magnetism

If a straight metal wire is moved up and down in the magnetic field between the two poles of a horse shoe type magnet , then an electric current is produced in the wire. The production of electric current by moving a straight wire (or straight conductor) in a magnetic field is called electromagnetic induction. In most simple terms ,electromagnetic induction means production of electricity from magnetism. The current produced by moving a straight wire in a magnetic field is called induced current. The condition necessary for the electromagnetic induction to take place is that there must be a relative motion between the conductor(wire)and the magnetic field.
