In the film Marilou Diaz-Abaya: Filmmaker on a Voyage, the multi-awarded director reminisces about her film career, her mentors in the industry and her renewed spirituality as she battles a life- threatening illness. Diaz-Abaya (1955 - 2012) was a director, producer and educator who directed more than 20 feature films, including the groundbreaking films in the 80s - Brutal (1982), Karnal (1983) and Baby Tsina (1984), and award-winning epics such as Jose Rizal (1998), Muro Ami (Reef Hunters, 1999) and Bagong Buwan (New Moon, 2001). Marilou Diaz-Abaya: Filmmaker on a Voyage is a fond farewell from Philippine filmmakers indebted to Diaz-Abaya's legacy. The film has been shown at Cinemalaya (Manila) in 2012 and several international film festivals. This is the first time the film will be released in Honolulu.
