Specifying learning objectives: content is not the main objective. Focus on acquiring research abilities, self-direction, and developing social and communication skills. Preparing Study Guides: provide study guides to give support and framework to the students search for information. Forming Student Teams: choose teams that are diverse ethnically, by gender, achievement level, and include students with and without exceptionalities. Supplementing Expert Presentations: fill in gaps

Assigning Experts: either assign topics or let students choose. This provides the framework and provides practice with social negotiation Information Gathering: students individually study their part in great depth. Provides experience in gathering and organizing knowledge and helps students become self-directed. Expert Meetings: students in a group compare and organize information. Deepens knowledge of the topic and develops leadership and social interaction skills. Peer Instruction: experts present their topic to the class. Develop class background knowledge and gives experience making presentations. Review and Closure: the topic is reviewed and summarized. Identify the essentials of the topic and fill in the gaps.

Formative: monitor group work and progress. The main skill that you will be evaluating is not content knowledge, but learning to do research, developing selfdirection, and working with others. Summative: ensure that the students pay attention to their classmates presentations through quizzes on the topics covered. Be sure to fill in the gaps missed in presentations but still hold students accountable for the information covered in the presentations.

Social: Students will be motivated through group work and peer interaction Extrinsic: quizzes on the topics covered will hold students accountable to present the information well and to pay close attention to their class mates presentations.
