Student Name: Shelby Nickel Date: 10/14/13 Circle or Triangle Using the Accreditation Criteria for the Classroom Portfolio, identify how 3 components are met or are demonstrated in your classroom. Collect artifacts (photos, artwork) to be used in the Classroom Portfolio. Classroom teacher will assign specific criteria to document. Identify the criterion: 2.A.11 b The schedule provides children learning opportunities, experiences, and projects that extend over the course of several days and incorporates time for play. Play is characterized by childrens active engagement and enjoyment and their ability to determine how the activity is carried out. Teaching staff is expected to encourage and facilitate active play involving physical movement as well as pretend or dramatic play. Children are expected to have opportunities to play individually and with peers. Describe how the documentation meets the criterion: The daily schedule, which provides time for a wide variety of experiences, including: art, circle time, gross motor play, outdoor time, and free time, allows children to explore new learning opportunities. The art and discovery table activities evolve from day to day throughout the week so the children have learning experiences that extend over a period of time.

Identify the criterion: 2.G.01 a Infants and toddlers/twos are provided varied opportunities and materials to use their senses to learn about objects in the environment. Describe how the documentation meets the criterion: The children are provided with many opportunities to go on field trips and nature walks. While engaging in these activities, the children have the opportunity to use their senses of smell, sight, and touch to learn about the their environment. By having both indoor and outdoor experiences, the children are able to use their senses in a variety of ways to learn about natural and manmade objects in their environment.

happen and solve simple problems. This is the learning of cause-and-effect relationships. Describe how the documentation meets the criterion: There are several toys and materials in our classroom that allow the children to explore cause-and effect relationships. The children are encouraged to experiment with these materials in order to learn problem solving for themselves rather than have an adult do everything for them.

Describe how the documentation meets the criterion: The art center provides a consistent location with a wide variety of materials where the children can go in order to experiment with age-appropriate art. In addition, the teachers in the classroom intentionally plan art activities that provide opportunities for the children to use a wide variety of art materials.

Identify the criterion: 3.B.11 c Teaching staff creates a climate of mutual respect for children by being interesting in their products. Describe how the documentation meets the criterion: Teachers in the classroom show enthusiasm and interest in childrens art. They use kind words and ask them to talk about their art instead of using negative words that lower childrens self-esteem. By showing this respect for all the childrens art, the children learn to be respectful of their friends.

Criterion: 2.A.11 b Documentation of criterion: The daily schedule, which provides time for a wide variety of experiences, including: art, circle time, gross motor play, outdoor time, and free time, allows children to explore new learning opportunities. The art and discovery table activities evolve from day to day throughout the week so the children have learning experiences that extend over a period of time.

The daily schedule is posted in more than one location in the classroom to remind teachers and students of the experiences the children should be receiving.

Everett (9 months) used his senses of touch and taste when shaking and chewing on a sensory bottle containing oil, water, glitter, and coloring.

Matthieu (32 months) used his senses of sight and touch when feeling the tree outside of the Child Study Center.

Criterion: 2.G.01 b Documentation of criterion: There are several toys and materials in our classroom that allow the children to explore cause-and effect relationships. The children are encouraged to experiment with these materials in order to learn problem solving for themselves rather than have an adult do everything for them.

Matthieu (32 months) and Anika (19 months) used problem-solving skills to manipulate the train track pieces in various ways until they properly fit together.

Matthieu (32 months) picked up the train cars and put them back together after they fell off the track.

Criterion: 2.J.02 a Documentation of criterion: The art center provides a consistent location with a wide variety of materials where the children can go in order to experiment with age-appropriate art. In addition, the teachers in the classroom intentionally plan art activities that provide opportunities for the children to use a wide variety of art materials.

The art center has numerous age-appropriate materials available to the children on a daily basis, including: markers, crayons, paper, tape, chalk, and stamping materials.

Criterion: 3.B.11 c Documentation of criterion: Teachers in the classroom show enthusiasm and interest in childrens art. Adults in the classroom showed interest by being attentive and smiling while Karson (18 months), Everett (9 month), and Leo (13 months) engaged in painting activities.
