Community Service Activities


Powder-puff Football Fundraiser (September 3, 2013- October 28, 2013) -The admission money gained from this charity event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Up until now I have spent at least one hour per week to get this event ready. Noahs Ark Day Care (July 07, 2012- July 17, 2012) - To gain hours for my Community Service Learning Project, I spent 20 hours volunteering at this daycare in my local neighborhood. I assisted in washing dishes after snack time, reading to children, cleaning them up after meals, and putting them down for naps. Relay for Life (April 2011-April 2012) -During both 2011 and 2012 events, I worked a spin art booth to raise money for a cure for cancer. I dedicated a total of six hours combined for each event.

Work Experience
Quality Cleaning Service (Summer, 2011) - I worked 20 hours per week over the course of the summer as a cleaning assistant. Child Care (Summer, 2013) - I worked 40 hours per week over the course of the summer as a babysitter. Internship at Carolina Forest Veterinary Hospital (October 7, 2013-November 18, 2013) For 2.5 hours every Monday I shadow the Kennel Manager and the front desk where I learn how to interact and take care of sick animals. I will also get to witness surgery on animals like neutering and spaying. Internship at Myrtle Beach Plastic Surgery (October 1, 2013-November 20, 2013) - For 2.5 hours every Tuesday and Wednesday I intern with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Cozart who shows me how some cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries are done. Sometimes I get to sit in on patient consultations before and after surgery where I get to see Dr. Cozart use the special imaging software he uses to show patients possible surgery outcomes. His wife Marla, who is a registered nurse and office manager, teaches me about the basics and necessities of running a practice as well as how to set up a sterile field.

Interests
Missionarys Assistant (September 2012-present) -I help by typing up quarterly activities for the Womens Missionary Society chapter of the Bucksport Salem AME Church. Building My Website (September 2013-Present) -This is the website that I use to document my senior mastery progress. - http://tahreasherman.weebly.com Mentors for Minorities in Medicine (October 11, 2013-Present) -I was recently accepted into the Mentors for Minorities in Medicine program whose goal is to mentor under represented ethnic groups by holding large sessions each month that will include medical career discussions. The workshop activities can range from SAT preparation to summer research opportunities.
