Coming from an eclectic and considerably diverse family, I was immediately exposed to many languages at an early age. At this point in time, Im fluent in French, Arabic and English and currently studying a fourth language, Spanish. My father is a French native while my mother is truly Lebanese. The effervescent atmosphere of languages stirring throughout the household is quite amusing to notice. My parents converse primarily in French, my mother speaks to my sister and me in Arabic and my sister and I speak to each other in English. By the time I entered high school, I had already known how to speak English, French, and Arabic. However, my background in languages motivated me to explore further by taking on Spanish. I am part of a program known as The Academy for Global Studies within Austin High School which is internationally focused and academically challenging in order to prepare students for a globally interconnected world. In this program, I was given the opportunity to take both domestic and international learning expeditions each year based on that years curriculum. My ability to speak four languages was proven useful on these trips. This program also functions as a project-based learning academy which has taught me how to work well with others and establish effective communication skills. On behalf of my interest in the medical field, my extracurricular activities are beneficial in preparing me for pre-med courses as an undergraduate. The Seton Explorers Post Club, held at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, is a program where various physicians speak to high school students and share how they were interested in their particular field, how they got there, and exactly what their position consists of. Ive been in this program for four years and Im currently the President. Continuing on this path, I worked at Austin OBGYN in the Medical

Records department. This job entailed of me organizing charts for patients as well as faxing records to the departments online database. I got to experience firsthand how the workforce is like in the medical field, in regards to the behind-the-scenes standpoint. I was also in club soccer for 14 years which has taught me responsibility and effective teamwork. Lastly, I was part of my middle and high school orchestra for four years where I learned discipline through music. Music is valuable to my goal because studies have shown that music enhances math skills especially if you studied music at a young age. I studied AP Psychology as a junior and Anatomy and Physiology as a senior. Both of these classes are optional courses but heighten my interest in the medical field. In the future as a college student, I plan on majoring in biology and taking courses that will prepare me for the pre-med route.
