MEGA CITIES CASE STUDY Your task You have become an expert on population growth and distribution and along with that the challenges and opportunities of mega cities. Your city (fill in the blankyou are to choose from the list on our website) needs your help now. The local government has hired you as a specialist consultant to help your city more effectively understand its current plight and what policies will be advisable as it goes forward. As a result you need to complete a 1000 word report which provides recommendations for actions your government should take to deal with the challenges it faces. Remember: your final report should be clear and concise and illustrated with visuals (i.e. diagrams) as your audience is not only the local government itself but the wider public. Your report should include the following elements: 1. A brief analysis of the development of your city. This should include:

a. Where your city is located & when it was first developed b. What has lead to its rapid growth? Relevant population data needs to be included. 2. Describe the challenges your city is facing or could potentially face in the future? 3. Outline three examples of work being carried out at the present time to address these challenges and evaluate their success . Account for the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Is this work sustainable and realistic for your city? 4. Finally, looking ahead 50 years, what do you predict will be the future challenges or opportunities your city will undergo? Will your citys growth continue? If so will your city be able to manage this kind of growth? You must support your ideas with evidence. You will be assessed on your ability to: - Present legible and appropriate content - Communicate your relevant information effectively - Integrate concepts and learning tools from the Population Geography unit of work into Mega Cities - Demonstrate an in depth understanding of Mega Cities in the develpoing world including the challenges of urbanization, spatial distribution of population etc
