WEDNESDAY Learning TargetStudents will learn to identify new vocabulary words using contextual clues as well as etymological clues. They will show their learning by reading sentences quoted from the novel at hand and working in small groups to make informed guesses about the meaning of particular words. They will then take a quiz testing the knowledge they have developed together in their group work.

THURSDAY Learning TargetStudents will understand plot in a work of literature. They will show their learning by generating a written synopsis of a chapter of the novel of their choice. The synopsis will include: One paragraph describing the significant events of the chapter; one paragraph describing what the student believes the author hoped to accomplish with the plot elements present in the chapter. TH FRIDAY Learning TargetStudents will learn vocabulary, character, plot, symbolism and writing style in literature. They will demonstrate their learning through small-group Socratic dialogues.
